THE CHARMCOVE SEASONAL SKIN GUIDE
How to adjust your routine every 90 days.
Your skin in January is not your skin in July. The temperature changes. The humidity changes. Your diet changes. Your stress levels change. Your skin responds to all of it.
A routine that works perfectly in winter can actively cause problems in summer. Most people don't adjust — and then wonder why their skin changes.
"The best routine is a responsive one."
SPRING — THE RESET
Spring is transition. Humidity rises. Temperature increases. Skin that was dry all winter starts to produce more oil. The heavy moisturiser that saved you in February may start congesting you in April.
What to do: Lighten your moisturiser. Reintroduce gentle exfoliation if you reduced it in winter. Check your SPF — you'll be spending more time outside. If you've been using a rich facial oil, consider moving it to evenings only.
Watch for: Congestion and breakouts as sebum production increases. This is normal — adjust, don't panic.
SUMMER — PROTECTION MODE
Summer is about protection above everything else. UV exposure is at its peak. Heat increases oil production. Humidity can cause congestion. Sweat affects product performance.
What to do: Switch to a lightweight gel moisturiser. Reapply SPF every two hours if you're outdoors. Double cleanse every evening to remove SPF, sweat, and pollution. Reduce heavy actives if your skin becomes reactive in heat.
Watch for: Hyperpigmentation from sun exposure. This is the season that creates the dark spots you'll spend autumn trying to fade. SPF is non-negotiable.
AUTUMN — THE REPAIR
Autumn is when you address the damage summer did and prepare for winter. Temperature drops. Humidity falls. Skin starts to lose moisture more quickly.
What to do: Reintroduce richer hydration. This is the best time to start or increase retinol — less sun exposure means less photosensitivity risk. Add vitamin C to address summer pigmentation. Begin transitioning to a creamier moisturiser.
Watch for: Dryness and dullness appearing earlier than expected. Start the transition before your skin tells you it needs it.
WINTER — BARRIER DEFENCE
Winter is the hardest season for skin. Cold air outside, heated air inside — both strip moisture. Transepidermal water loss increases. The skin barrier is under constant pressure.
What to do: Prioritise barrier repair. Ceramides, fatty acids, hyaluronic acid on damp skin sealed with a rich moisturiser. Reduce exfoliation frequency. Add a facial oil as the final evening step. Never skip moisturiser.
Watch for: Sensitivity and reactivity as the barrier weakens. If your skin becomes reactive, strip back to basics and repair before reintroducing actives.
THE RULE
Reassess your routine at the start of every season. Four times a year. It takes five minutes and it keeps your routine working for your skin as it actually is — not as it was three months ago.
