Why order changes everything.

Most people apply skincare in whatever order feels natural. Cleanser, then whatever's closest, then moisturiser. Maybe SPF if they remember.

Then they wonder why their routine isn't working.

The sequence isn't a suggestion. It's chemistry. Apply in the wrong order and you're not just wasting product — you're actively blocking absorption.

THE RULE

Thinnest to thickest. Always. Lightest texture first, heaviest last. This ensures each layer can penetrate before the next one seals it.

Apply a heavy moisturiser before a serum and the serum sits on top of the moisturiser, unable to reach the skin. The moisturiser has done its job — it's created a barrier. That barrier works both ways.

THE SEQUENCE

1. Cleanser — The foundation of everything. Done properly, not quickly.

2. Toner or essence — Preps the skin and improves absorption of what follows. Apply to slightly damp skin.

3. Serum or treatment — Your actives. This is where the real work happens. Press in, don't rub.

4. Eye care — The eye area is thinner and more delicate. It needs its own product, applied gently with the ring finger.

5. Moisturiser — Seals everything in. Locks moisture into the skin and protects the layers beneath.

6. SPF (morning only) — Always last. Always. SPF is a shield — it needs to sit on top of everything else to work.

Facial tools — Most devices work best after serum, before moisturiser. The tool drives the serum deeper. Check your specific product for guidance.

THE DETAIL MOST PEOPLE MISS

Wait between layers. Not long — 30 to 60 seconds is enough. Let each product settle before applying the next. Rushing the sequence is almost as bad as getting the order wrong.

Damp skin absorbs better than dry skin. Apply your serum while your skin is still slightly damp from toner. You'll feel the difference immediately.
